Considering the challenging needs for an academic platform to train and equip professionals in Information and Media Studies with a view to meeting the challenges posed by the rapid growth and advancement in technology, Bayero University, Kano (BUK), deemed it necessary to establish the Department of Information and Media studies. The Department was created during the 2015/2016 academic session. It is one of the three departments that form the newly established Faculty of Communication in the university. The Department commenced full operations during the 2016/2017 session with 65 students and the staff strength of five academic staff, plus a number of visiting lecturers from relevant departments. The department is located at the Faculty of Communication building, behind the convocation arena at BUK new campus.
