Message from the dean

"As a faculty, the Faculty of Communication is one of the youngest in the University although one of its Departments, the Mass Communication, had been running since 1978 under the Faculty of Arts and later the Social Sciences respectively. It is a dynamic Faculty which offers students a truly national environment which enriches their learning experience and cultural diversity of their campus life. The Faculty has a good staff to students’ ratio in its three undergraduate programmes, namely Mass Communication, Theater and Performing Arts and Information and Media Studies. Most of the postgraduate programmes, namely Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Mass Communication; Master of Science (M. Sc) in Mass Communication; Professional Master’s in Public Relations (MPR) and Communication Studies (MCS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mass Communication, are all offered presently by Mass Communication Department only. However, the Department of Theater and Performing Arts has done its ¦rst postgraduate admission into PGD in Theater Arts commencing in 2020/2021 academic session. The Department of Information and Media Studies (IMS) is expected to follow soon in that regard. All the programmes in the Faculty have full accreditation status granted by the regulatory body for the universities, the National Universities Commission (NUC). Irrespective of the level, we support students to achieve their potential by high quality and committed teaching and non-teaching staff, excellent learning environment, teaching resources and facilities. Our students also enjoy great advantage from the Faculty’s valuable network with industry, which equips them with essential knowledge and skills to excel in today’s highly competitive world. Not surprisingly, graduates of the Faculty are rated highly by media organizations and the industry generally. Choosing to come to study in the Faculty is one of the most important decisions to make for your future education, career and ambitions.

I welcome you to be a part of this wonderful experience."
